The Author

Hi, I’m Syed Tabassum Afreen, the Mom Behind MomLoom

Welcome to MomLoom! I’m the mother, writer, and creator behind this little corner of the internet. I started MomLoom on March 21, 2021, with a simple idea: to create a place where I could share the things I experience, learn, wonder about, and sometimes struggle with as a mother and as a woman. I’m a mother of two, and many of the stories you find here come directly from my own life. Some are about motherhood and parenting, some about pregnancy and women’s experiences, and others are simply about the everyday situations that make up family life. I don’t write because I have all the answers. I write because I’ve been there.

Why I Started MomLoom

Motherhood has taught me that there are so many moments when you find yourself searching the internet for someone who has experienced the same thing. Sometimes you don’t need a perfect textbook answer. You want to hear: “This happened to me too.” That’s one of the reasons I created MomLoom. I wanted to share my experiences honestly—the things that went well, the things that worried me, the mistakes I made, the things I learned, and the little discoveries that made life easier. Over the years, MomLoom has grown into a collection of my experiences and reflections on motherhood, parenting, family, relationships, women’s lives, and everyday living.

What You’ll Find on MomLoom

My articles cover different parts of life, including:

Place
  • Motherhood & Parenting
  • Pregnancy
  • Kids & Family
  • Women’s Life
  • Marriage & Relationships
  • Health experiences
  • Recipes & Food
  • Faith & Deen
  • Lifestyle
  • Personal experiences and stories

Some articles are simply personal stories. Others involve information I’ve researched because I wanted to understand something better myself. Whenever I write about a health or medical topic, I try to make the distinction clear between my personal experience and information provided by qualified professionals or medical sources.

My Approach to Writing

Most importantly, I don’t want MomLoom to pretend to be something it isn’t. I’m not a doctor, dentist, therapist, or other medical professional. When I share something that happened to me or my children, I’m sharing my experience, not presenting it as a diagnosis or as advice that will necessarily apply to everyone. When an article discusses medical or health information, I believe readers should also consult qualified healthcare professionals and reliable medical sources for their own circumstances. My goal is to say: “This is what happened to us, this is what I learned, and these are the sources that helped me understand it.” Not: “This is what everyone should do.”

MomLoom began in 2021, and I’ve continued writing and building the site over the years. It’s amazing to look back and see how much has changed—not only on the website, but in my own life and in my journey as a mother. Every article represents a little piece of that journey. Some posts are polished and carefully researched. Some are deeply personal. Some are simply things I wish someone had told me earlier. But behind them is a real person and a real life.

A Little More About Me

Outside of writing, I’m simply a mom trying to navigate the beautiful, messy, exhausting, and sometimes hilarious experience of raising children. I enjoy writing, sharing experiences, learning new things, and turning everyday experiences into something that might be useful to another person. If something I write helps another mother feel a little less alone, answers a question she has been wondering about, or simply makes her say “I’m not the only one!”, then I’m happy I wrote it.
